Buffett’s “Buried Treasure” coming in November

From BuffettNews.com:

Buffett to release “Buried Treasure” in November
October 5, 2017

Jimmy Buffett will release a collection of songs from the late 60’s called “Buried Treasure” on November 17, 2017. It is available at Amazon.com in two formats:

BURIED TREASURE: VOLUME 1 – STANDARD VERSION or
BURIED TREASURE: VOLUME 1 – DELUXE PACKAGE

A few years ago when legendary Nashville producer Buzz Cason sold his recording studio, there was some cleaning up to do. That’s when Jimmy learned they had found a collection of 1⁄4-inch tapes that turned out to be the original demos of songs Jimmy had written and recorded for Buzz in the late 60’s. There were over 125 songs in that pile of tape boxes. In addition to the song demos there were also the first recordings Travis Turk had engineered in Mobile, and that is where the whole story of Buried Treasure begins.

JB : “There is a reason we are calling this collection of songs and stories Buried Treasure – because they were literally buried in a closet in a recording studio in Nashville for decades. They were discovered by an old friend, Travis Turk, who actually recorded these tracks in Mobile, Alabama in 1969, and more in Nashville in the years following when we both wound up moving there. Travis eventually produced the first two albums I recorded in Nashville, as well. When we first found the tapes of Buried Treasure, I didn’t know that it would turn out to be such a unique situation where I’d actually get to honor and introduce the people who started me out.”

It will be available in standard and deluxe packaging. Both releases contain 11 acoustic tracks and song-by-song narration by Jimmy Buffett. The Standard version contains a 28 page book. The Deluxe version is a 40-page collector’s book with never before seen photos which holds the CD and a bonus 20-minute documentary DVD: The Story Behind Buried Treasure.

Track Listing:

Don’t Bring Me Candy
Circle Is Small
Abandoned On Tuesday
I Can’t Be Your Hero Today
Rickety Lane
Wino Has Something to Say
California Dreamin’
The Gypsy
Hopelessly Gone
Simple Pleasures
Close the World At Five

WGN talks to Jimmy Buffett

Singer, songwriter Jimmy Buffett was in Chicago recently, to perform some of the songs from his upcoming musical ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE.

The new musical will play Broadway In Chicago’s Oriental Theatre for a limited three-week engagement November 9 through December 2, 2017.

Escape to Margaritaville is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner Greg Garcia (“My Name Is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy® Award nominee Mike O’Malley (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this rousing and refreshing new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee Kelly Devine (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by 2017 Tony Award® winner and La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley (Come From Away, Memphis).

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar and kick back to the soothing sounds of the kettledrum. It doesn’t get much better than this.

It’s 5 o’clock in Margaritaville, again! (Pensacola)

After four long months of renovations, Landshark Landing at the Margaritaville Beach Hotel is back and better than ever.

“They’ve basically made it new again,” said Margaritaville Bar Manager Nate Simmons.

“All of the tables have been painted, the bar top has been completely redone, the bar itself has been restained, and they’ve taken down the old decorations and put up all new ones.”

They have even brought in new sand for their back beach, hung new hammocks and updated the kids area. The Landshark has always been a great place for the whole family to hang out, but their biggest improvement might just make it your go-to spot on Pensacola Beach.

“We are a full, legit restaurant now,” Simmons said. Their menu ranges from light items like the boiled Gulf shrimp and house-made hummus to beach staples like their “fin’tastic” tacos and fish and chips and the crab cake sandwich.

Simmons believes that the biggest home run on Executive Chef Eric Troup’s menu is the smoked-tuna dip.

“I’ve tried every smoked-tuna dip on the island, and nothing compares to what we do here,” Simmons said.

They also have chicken fingers, hot dogs and other items for the pickier eaters in your group.

Not only do they have a new food menu, but the booze in their blender would also make Mr. Buffett proud. You definitely want to try the Blue Angel Lemonade, an homage to our favorite boys in blue that features huckleberry vodka, Aylesbury vodka, mint, and a freshly squeezed and house-made lemonade.

If you are looking for a frozen concoction to help you hang on, try the Havanas Bananas. This beachy treat combines Margaritaville dark rum, Bailey’s Irish Cream, a banana liqueur and pina colada mix. For $15, you can even get your cocktail in a 22-ounce souvenir cup that can be refilled for only $9.

Just a few years ago, Landshark Landing ranked 24th on CNN’s “World’s 50 Best Beach Bars” list, and Simmons believes it is more worthy of the title now than ever before.

“This is the coolest spot on Pensacola Beach,” Simmons said. “You’ve got the view, the back beach, a full restaurant and bar, and parking. I don’t know of a better spot.”

Landshark is throwing a weekend-long party to celebrate the reopening beginning Friday, just in time for Sunday’s Krewe of Wrecks Mardi Gras parade.

It will be open 4-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. There will be live music every night and $2 beer and $4 margaritas all weekend.

Sign up for the cornhole tournament Saturday for a chance to win a $50 bar tab. They will also have kite flying and beach games to keep the kids entertained, for those who want to bring the whole family. The Landshark will be open only on the weekend for the next few weeks, but once summer comes you’ll be able to live the island lifestyle every day.

So, walk your blown-out flip-flops over to Landshark Landing and claim your hammock. It’s time to waste away in Margaritaville again, my friends.

The History Behind the Iconic Margarita Glass – Margaritaville Blog

The origin of the iconic margarita glass is somewhat of a mystery. As is the case with so many popular items, there’s more than one story. One of the most prevalent is that the glass evolved at a restaurant in Los Angeles. They ordered new champagne glasses, and a set of peculiarly shaped ones were accidentally delivered. The bartender suggested using them as margarita glasses since they looked bigger and could probably command a higher price.

You can certainly see the resemblance to the much older and smaller French champagne glass that has its own interesting (yet contested) origin story. Allegedly, this glass got its shape from Marie Antoinette’s left breast – she wanted her court to toast to her health by drinking out of bosom-shaped glassware.

As for the liquid that goes in the glass, the revered margarita drink itself (a simple combination of tequila, lime and triple sec) comes with its own slew of creation myths. A particularly interesting one traces its origin back to the popular drink, the Daisy (‘margarita,’ after all, means daisy in Spanish). During the prohibition, the drink was remade with tequila instead of brandy, which became common as people drifted over the border for alcohol.

Whatever the true origins may be, there’s no argument over that fact that the drink and its designated glass have become cultural staples and in many ways epitomize the laid-back island lifestyle, thanks in part to Jimmy Buffett’s music.

As a lifestyle icon, the margarita glass resonates today beyond the restaurant and bar scene. As Margaritaville’s designers, The McBride Company has worked on ways to infuse the iconic shape of the margarita glass into Margaritaville restaurants and resorts. We tip our hat to the margarita in both literal and more abstract ways.

At the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, one quite literal example greets you in the lobby. A shimmering chandelier hangs above the seating area, and upon closer inspection, guests recognize that it’s made up of dozens of individually illuminated margarita glasses hanging upside down to create a free-form lighting structure.

Another example can be found in the lobby’s custom blown glass sconces. These amber colored fixtures are meant to subtly evoke the shape of vintage tequila bottles. The sconces and chandelier are meant to work together to evoke the Margaritaville state of mind.

The margarita has become one of the world’s most popular drinks. It has been estimated that Americans consume 185,000 margaritas on average per hour. Margaritas have evolved through the years, and the varieties seem endless – from a $1200 version available for purchase at 230 FIFTH rooftop bar in NYC to this unique concoction pictured here. What is it, you ask…? A deep-fried margarita at the Texas State Fair, of course! And if you had any doubts, the thing that most certainly drives it home is that perfectly shaped margarita glass.
