Membership Renewal – DUE MARCH 31, 2014 Island Time

Obviously we have been on Island Time…but it is time for membership renewal. And we have something special for our club members. If you sign up a new member or bring a member back to the “Phlock” the club will give you a $10.00 rebate on your membership! Yes that’s right; we will give you a $10.00 rebate on your membership for any new or returning member that you bring to the club. The offer is good until June 30, 2014.

Here is a history of why the dues are due from the Greeting to the Phlock in 2011:

We have made it super easy to remember when your dues are “due.” We have gone to an annual schedule so that everyone can pay at the same time…and we don’t have to wonder when we should pay. We want to reiterate that we are willing to work with any member on a case by case basis regarding any proration issues they may have. For most it will not be an issue but there are a few that have paid in the middle of the year…we will address it and be very accommodating as it is not that much money. That is why we asked you to contact Dawn so we can address any concerns/issues the membership may have.

This is from an email we sent September 2010:

“In an effort to stream line the process of notification that membership due are “due” for payment, your Palmetto Parrot Head Board voted to enhance the process for notification and receipt of membership dues. It was voted to have membership dues paid by March 31st of each year starting in 2011 regardless of individual membership anniversary dates. Beginning in 2011, club members will be notified that it is time to renew your membership by March 31st, 2011.

The main goal of this action was to help everyone know when to pay their membership dues. But there is an added bonus-we will know what the fiscal budget will be for the calendar year and can allocate funds in the planning of the events we love to attend.”

If you have any questions/concerns with this information or need to know the status of your current membership dues please contact, Debra our Club Treasurer for clarification.

Fin Fest XV – Big Changes for Fin Fest XV

Well Fin Fest is taking another leap and changing. As the Board was not able to find a host hotel that was willing to work with us another year we had to think outside the box and try something new. We wanted something fun and would show Columbia what our club is all about. We are planning a Vista pub crawl-Card Sharks! We are working towards a July 26th date for this brand new event! We are currently working with the Visa Guild to select bars and make this a very successful event. If anyone would like to help by volunteering for the planning committee we can certainly use your help. This is a new adventure for the Board and Club…other clubs have found this a type of event very successful and we know we can have a great pub crawl!

As always we need some stuff for the silent auction, big stuff for raffle prizes. If you have been doing any spring cleaning and found some treasures that would be a great Silent Auction or raffle prize please let us know. We can give you a charitable donation tax receipt for these donations. Don’t forget to reach out to the merchants that you do business with. It never hurts to ask for a great cause!

We are also looking for a few great volunteers the day of the event! If you would like to volunteer please contact us. We will need club members to help decorate, staff the Welcome Table, be on the meet and greet team, be on security patrol, and set up/work the raffle room. Volunteering at this event will be “way too much fun!” So pick what looks like the most fun to you and be ready to sign up at the next few Happy Hours.

Please contact any Board member if you have any questions-we are here for you! We would love for you to come share your ideas and suggestions! They are always welcomed!!!!

Happy Hours

As you may have noticed we have been doing something different with the Happy Hours the last couple of months. Based on feedback from members, we have tried to schedule Happy Hours on Saturday for those of who have a busy schedule during the week. Well, they have not been very successful but we are willing try anything that will allow you to participate in club events. We need your feedback. Where would you like to have a Happy Hour? We like to circulate around town allowing everyone in the club to come to a Happy Hour near them at least once every three months. Your Board would like to know you opinion of making The Loose Cockaboose, 936 South Stadium Road, Columbia SC 29201 Home Port for the summer months for the Thursday Happy Hours. What do you think? Please let us know as we want to make Happy Hour an event you do not want to miss.

Adopt-A-Highway

The Palmetto Parrot Head Club continues to support the Adopt-A-Highway! We had a very successful pickup in May and very proud of our efforts. We even had two very nice young men stop and give everyone a drink they purchased at the store for us. One gentleman even stopped and asked how he could start Adopt-A-Highway on another stretch of Fish Hatchery Road. We had 22 bags of trash this time. That is a long way from the 62 we had on our first pickup. Look for more information to come about our next pickup. It does not take very long, you get in some great exercise and you get to have fun! You never know what you will pick up and we have a great time hanging out after the job is done….

Your Board wants to provide you with a venue to “Party with a Purpose!” as we do fundraising, support ecological efforts to save the planet, and volunteer our time to those charities we support. This is what the Palmetto Parrot Head Club is all about. We want to provide a venue for you to make new friends, travel to other parrot head functions as a group, share ideas, and volunteer while having a great time!
